The following form must be filled out with ALL requirements acknowledged in order to book a water meter installation appointment with the City of Fort Saskatchewan.
By filling out this form, you acknowledge that the following requirements will be met PRIOR to your appointment time.
1. All new residential construction properties are subject to a $99 METER INSTALLATION FEE. If a City operator goes to the property to install the water meter and all of the following requirements are not met, THE WATER METER MAY NOT BE INSTALLED AND A “SITE NOT READY” FEE WILL BE CHARGED, as per The City of Fort Saskatchewan Fees and Charges Bylaw.
2. The outdoor shutoff (CC) is at final grade, accessible, and operational (the same conditions as required to pass a construction completion inspection, set screw in place and snug, and top tight and secure).
3. The water service line into the building has been thoroughly flushed (at least 15 minutes) to clear any sediment and debris.
4. Meter location is within 1m (3ft) from where the water line enters the building (typically through the floor slab).
5. The meter location is accessible and enough space is around the meter to allow for installation and maintenance (about 1m (3ft) to the sides and in front, and 30cm (12in) from the wall to the centre of the pipe). The pipe is supported 15cm (6in) on both sides of the meter.
6. The standard meter size to be installed at all properties is a 5/8” meter. The span requirement for this meter is 11.5”, with a ½” NPT connection. If a larger meter is being requested, it must be reviewed and approved by the City. Span requirements will change with a larger meter.
7. A shut off valve is installed upstream of the meter. Downstream plumbing is complete to the extent that pipes are fixed, supported and capped to allow water to be turned on to complete a pressure test of the meter fittings. (Completion of capped rough-ins is recommended at a minimum.)
8. A wire of 22-gauge solid conductor with minimum 3 wires has been run from the water meter location to an outside wall 1m to 1.5m (3’ to 5’) from the ground and 6” to12” from the electrical meter, for meter transmitter. Access to the outside transmitter location is unobstructed.
9. The exterior finishing is complete to the extent that the meter-read transmitter can be attached. (A siding mounting-block at the transmitter location is recommended.)
10. If plumbing is only at the rough-in stage, the City will not be able to test the shutoff valve before proceeding.
